When an achilles injury to frontman Zack de la Rocha put an end to Rage Against the Machine's 2023 tour plans it was hoped that the band would eventually reschedule. However, drummer Brad Wilk has said it is likely the band will never return to the stage.
"I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again," Wilk wrote on Instagram. “I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was.”
Guitarist Tom Morello previously commented on the future of the band, telling fans in 2023 that a joint statement would confirm their future plans. “If there are Rage shows, if there are not Rage shows, you’ll hear from the band,” Morello said last March. “I do not know. When there is news, it will come from a collective statement from the band. There is no news.”
de La Rocha first injured himself during a show at Chicago's United Center in July 2022. The band finished the early stages of their reunion tour with the frontman staying seated during the band's sets but later postponed previously announced dates in North America and Europe for the following year. The band's reunion tour has been beset by delays since it was first announced, having originally been postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the band’s bassist Tim Commerford revealed that he has been living with prostate cancer.
