Azealia Banks apologizes to Lizzo for past comments
However, she didn’t hold back when it came to Busta Rhymes.
Azealia Banks has apologized to Lizzo for her past comments about the hitmaker’s body and public persona.
According to HipHopDX, Banks took to her Instagram Story over the weekend to say she “was having a conversation last night" and “realized that I owe Lizzo a huge apology for popping so much shit.”
The “212” rapper appears to be referencing several Instagram comments from 2019, where she expressed her contempt for Lizzo and everyone’s ongoing fixation on “keeping this fat girl joke going."
Banks also said that Lizzo’s hit song, “Truth Hurts,” was “not good nor is the dumpy fat girl spectacle live set she does,” while saying the “saddest bit is that the girl is legit talented and truly only being allowed to shine so long as she allows herself to be this millenial [sic] mammy.”
She later wrote, “She is making a fool of her Black self for a white American public."
However, Banks' Instagram Story didn’t end with her apology to Lizzo. Instead, she went on to take aim at rapper Busta Rhymes in a follow-up post insulting his age, weight, and looks, writing that he “exhibits major signs of anabolic steroid abuse, adrenal gland failure, and constipation.”
“[Hip-hop] will also allow him to have a face full of blackheads and acne from what appears to be testosterone shot abuse,” Banks said about Rhymes, who she collaborated with in 2019 on “Taste’s State.”
“All whilst drinking molly water in 2023 and wearing cartoon-like neon yellow fake gold Slick Rick chains,” she continued.
Banks then concluded her post with what appeared to be a nod toward Lizzo by saying, “We have absolutely no right to be trying to skewer a young Black woman for anything.”
