Sharon Van Etten has shared a new song co-written with Courtney Barnett. "Close to You" will appear on the soundtrack to Apple TV+ series The Buccaneers, due later this month. Scroll down to hear the song now.
Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint produced The Buccaneers soundtrack and worked on "Close To You" alongside Zach Dawes. Artists who have contributed to the album include Miya Folick (whose "What We Wanna" arrived last month), Bully, Gracie Abrams, Alison Mosshart, and Warpaint's Emily Kokal. Van Etten has two tracks on the soundtrack, "Close To You" and "Feel Good."
The Buccaneers is a period drama, based on the Edith Wharton novel of the same name, starring Kristine Froseth, Christina Hendricks, Alisha Boe, and J.J. Toteh. It begins on November 8, the same day the soundtrack is released.
In a statement, Mozgawa said: "It was a truly incredible experience working with this group of uniquely talented artists. Everyone brought their A-game and taught me something invaluable about the creative process. Witnessing these artists map each character’s journey through song was a joy, and the album feels like a really exciting companion to the show."
Van Etten's voice is a regular fixture of TV and movies in 2023. She covered “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire” with Michael Imperioli for WWII drama A Small Light and also contributed “Quiet Eyes” to the A24 movie Past Lives.
