Megan The Stallion has revealed that she is working independently for the first time since she was unsigned and managed by her mother.

Speaking in an IG Live hosted on her producer LilJuMadeDaBeat’s account this week, Megan revealed that she is funding the recording of a new album herself. She also hinted that her plan was to sign a record deal eventually, though she could stick to working as an independent artist, too.

“Hotties, this part of my album is definitely funded by Megan The Stallion,” she said during the IG live. “I have no label right now and we’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pocket so the budget is coming from me. I’m so excited to be doing something for the first time independent since it was just me and my momma. It’s really just me until we sign to a new label. I don’t want to sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself.”

Megan’s 2022 album Traumazine was released by 1501 Certified Music and 300 Entertainment, the two labels all of her music has come via since she emerged on the rap scene. She has been locked in legal issues with 1501 for many years, however, and hinted at that fact during the IG Live. “We’re trying to get off…,” she said, leaving a silence instead of naming the label. “Y’all know the tea.”

Megan recently appeared alongside Cardi B on “Bongos” and shared “Out Alpha The Alpha” from the new A24 movie Dicks: The Musical. Earlier this month she joined Beyoncé on stage in their hometown of Houston, Texas to perform “Savage Remix” for the first time. She will also voice a character in the upcoming season of Big Mouth.
