Rap Blog is a weekly showcase of a standout rap song written by Vivian Medithi and Nadine Smith.
As the heart of the region sometimes known as the “Mid-South,” the city of Memphis straddles two worlds, quite literally — the Mississippi River divides the city between two states, with Tennessee on the eastern shore and Arkansas to the West. West Memphis native and Moneybagg Yo protege YTB Fatt, who recently dropped his debut tape Who is Fatt, owes as much to the Midwest as he does to the South. His deep-fried drawl is straight out of Memphis, but his spitfire flow is just as home amidst the relentlessness of Michigan’s current rap scene.
On his new loosie “Come Outside,” Fatt links up with Detroit veteran Icewear Vezzo for two minutes of effortless tag-team rapping. Where Vezzo is boisterous, Fatt moves quieter, hardly raising his voice above a raspy whisper. The resulting combination is hard as concrete, with forceful 808s that demand to be blasted from the nearest trunk speakers you can find.
