The future of Fleetwood Mac is never something to be relied on but Stevie Nicks has said she does not see a way for the band to return to the stage following the 2022 death of her bandmate, Christine McVie.

Speaking in a new interview with Vulture, Nicks said that on a practical and personal level, she does not believe there's any reason to continue with Fleetwood Mac without her late bandmate.

"When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t,” Nicks is quoted as saying. "Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend. We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other. Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to."

Nicks continued, "Christine was the pop star. She wrote all those really super pop hits. None of the rest of us could write those songs. What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.”

These comments echo those of Nicks's bandmate Mick Fleetwood when he spoke in February. "I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris," he told the Los Angeles Times. "I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now."

In lighter news, Nicks has also been immortalized in plastic form with her own Barbie. The doll was revealed by Nicks during a show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 1, and is based on her look from the cover of the 1977 album Rumours. She wears a flowing black dress with a gold moon necklace and tambourine.

"When I look at her I see my 27-year-old self," Nicks said on stage in New York, which is part of Mattel's Signature Music series and retails at $55. "I am her and she is me."
