Shakira was honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV VMAs, where she delivered an excited speech thanking MTV for the prestigious award.
"It's amazing to receive this from my friend Wyclef Jean," she said of her "Hips Don't Lie" collaborator, who presented her with the award.
"This is truly a surprise," Shakira went on to say, before going on to acknowledge everyone who's played an integral role in helping her craft her "visual history." In particular, she expressed her gratitude for all of the women who've supported her along the way, as well as her friends and family for their support. Watch it below.
Her speech comes on the heels of an electrifying performance that featured a medley of some of her greatest, namely “She Wolf,” “Whenever, Wherever,” “Te Felicito,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” and “Objection (Tango)."
Earlier this year, Shakira has shared the single "Acróstico" and “Music Sessions Vol. 53,” a collaboration with Bizzrap. The latter song addressed her breakup with Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué and her tax issues in Spain.
