Kendrick Lamar fans are criticizing a Polish game show called Your Face Sounds Familiar for featuring a contestant who performed “HUMBLE.” in blackface and braids.
On the latest episode of Your Face Sounds Familiar, singer Kuba Szmajkowski was one of eight Polish celebrities who did karaoke renditions of popular songs while trying to copy the style of the original artist. Unfortunately, Szmajkorski took things too far after appearing on-stage in Blackface and braids while dropping the N-word for his performance of Lamar’s Grammy-winning song.
In the end, Szmajkowski ended up winning and donating the prize money to a children’s cancer organization called the Przystań Nadziei Foundation. However, the cover quickly went viral on Twitter, where fans voiced their distaste for the “disgusting” clip while also wondering why blackface even was necessary in the first place, with one person suggesting that Szmajkowski should’ve just stuck with Eminem.
Not only that, but the video also led to the resurfacing of clips from older Your Face Sounds Familiar episodes, in which singers also donned Blackface for imitations of artists like Kanye West and Beyoncé.
While Szmajowski’s performance was eventually deleted from the show’s official Twitter, the entire performance can still be found on YouTube.
Lamar, Smajkowski, and Your Face Sounds Familiar have yet to comment on the performance.
