The excellent punk band Mannequin Pussy have announced exciting plans for their own record label. The band launched Romantic Records this week, with the first release being a reissue of their 2016 album Romantic. "Thank you to everyone who has been part of our musical lives and who has loved and supported this record," the band wrote in a statement announcing the new label.
Romantic was originally released on Tiny Engines but the band was able to buy back their master recordings after the North Carolina–based indie label went on hiatus in 2019 following a accounting-related controversy. The label was, at one time, home to Adult Mom, Illuminati Hotties,Spirit of the Beehive, and Strange Ranger among others. Tiny Engines relaunched in July.
Mannequin Pussy were keen to point out that, when it comes to their own music being released on Romantic, the current plan is to focus on their older material. The band is signed to Epitaph and will release any new music on that label. "We're not so much striking out our own we gotta a solid team of people helping us navigate and learn about this. The crew is very strong," they said on Twitter on Wednesday.
