Suzi Analogue continues to prove she’s an underground legend. She uplifts artists in her collective and record label Never Normal Soundsystem, spearheads the Beat Lab at the University of North Carolina, and pushes boundaries in her own releases, remaining one of the most innovative and community-oriented acts in the scene.
Today (August 16), on her birthday, Suzi’s owning her legacy in her new single “Tha Mood.” “I ain’t got nothin to prove / Tell me what you want to do / We can rearrange tha mood / Don’t play with me,” she sings fearlessly over a grainy and unpredictable house- and techno-infused beat she produced herself, with engineering help from Never Normal signee Heavee. The dynamic track injects a bolt of confidence into anyone who listens, encouraging them to stand their ground and not let people walk all over them.
The self-directed music video matches the song’s eccentricities. Sporting her signature heart-framed glasses and Never Normal merch, Suzi struts along Paris self-assuredly as the lyrics pop across the screen in different languages.
