Harmony’s “Shoplifting From Nike” video is a big, fluffy, anti-capitalist day out
Listen to the second song from the former Girlpool member’s upcoming solo EP.
Last month Harmony Tividad, formerly of Girlpool, formally introduced us to her new solo venture with the release of "Good Things Take Time." That song will appear on Harmony's forthcoming EP Dystopia Girl, which is due out on August 25 through her own Fantasy Corp label. Today we get the second taste of the EP via the excellently titled "Shoplifting From Nike." Scroll down to hear the song now.
"Shoplifting From Nike" is a squelchy synth-pop anthem that squeezes in lyrical references to Winona Ryder, Buffy, Tumblr, and ecstasy over three fun-filled minutes. It comes with a video in which Harmony and her crew make their way down Hollywood Boulevard, dancing in video game arcades and crossing security guards along their way.
In a statement, Harmony says the song is about "trying to function under the weight of all things and creating a personality that is so shameless that you believe you can survive it. It’s about modern spirituality, materialism, and disassociation. And the 2008 housing crisis. And being annoying and epic. And having fun and not taking life too seriously… but also being deeply invested in reality."
