Song You Need: Barry Can’t Swim believes God is a woman
“Woman” is the lead single from the Scottish producer’s forthcoming debut album, When Will We Land?.
Edinburgh's Barry Can't Swim has been capturing hearts in the last year with his soul-wrenching hits, including "God Is The Space Between Us," "Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore," and "Can We Still Be Friends?" While he delivers another emotional tune with his latest single, "Woman," that's not all he's going to give us this year. His forthcoming album, When Will We Land? (out October 20 via Ninja Tune), is as much for the club as it is for your home. The project will feature 11 tracks ranging from deep house to jazz to afrobeat.
Until then, "Woman" is a perfect segue into the new record, going back to his passionate side. Barry Can't Swim's ode to women proves to be a ferocious anthem. Sensual keys lead into Låpsley's soulful vocals as she sings about the force of feminity. In the hook, she potently chants, "When the people got the power / You see a human, I see a God."
“I sent it out,” Barry Can't Swim explained in a press statement. “Lapsley came back immediately with this unreal vocal. I chopped it up, re-arranged it… it’s one of those things that fell into place.” Listen to "Woman" below.
