This girl is on Broadway! Alicia Keys has announced a new musical titled Hell's Kitchen, which will be loosely based on her own life story. The show will feature Keys' music, and centers on a 17 year-old Ali living in a cramped Times Square Apartment and discovering the piano. However, when she catches feelings for a young drummer, Ali and her mother have to reckon with what it means to grow up Black in America.
Hell's Kitchen was written by playwright Kristofer Diaz and directed by Michael Grief, whose other credits include Next To Normal, Rent, and Dear Evan Hansen. The principal cast is composed of Maleah Joi Moon, Shoshana Bean, Chris Lee, Kecia Lewis, and Brandon Victor Dixon. Previews begin October 24, with the production running from November 19 through December 10 at New York's Public Theater.
