Kanye West is facing a $2 million lawsuit from the Gap, TMZ reports. Gap’s complaint stems from a separate lawsuit filed against the clothing company by Art City Center, which claims that a building it owns was renovated without permission in order to sell West’s clothing collaboration with the Gap in 2021 and 2022. Art City Center is suing Gap to restore the building to its original state.
The Gap’s lawsuit argues that West should be liable for any damages that the brand may have to pay out. Its contract with the artist allegedly contains a clause that shields the Gap from any claims brought against them in connection with West.
In September, West ended his partnership with Gap, claiming that the clothing company did not follow the terms of its contract. Gap brand president Mark Breitbard said in a statement to employees in September: “While we share a vision of bringing high-quality, trend-forward, utilitarian design to all people through unique omni experiences with Yeezy Gap, how we work together to deliver this vision is not aligned.”
