The Manchester cold rave band (think post-punk, Throbbing Gristle, and a sprinkle of techno white labels from the dingiest recesses of Berghain) share their debut album today. I’ve Seen a Way was recorded "in caves, crypts and shopping malls," according to a press release, and you really get the sense of those spaces from the music. “We wanted to alter textures, create clashes, and craft those moments when what you’re expecting to happen never comes,” the band's Scott Fair says.

Reflections is a composition written by Sufjan Stevens for a ballet of the same name, choreographed by Justin Peck for the Houston Ballet in 2019. Today's album release enlists the pianists Timo Andres and Conor Hanick, but don't expect to hear whatever your notions of "piano music" are. “A lot of the work that I compose is anachronistic as it doesn't follow a genealogy of aesthetic," Stevens says in a press release. "It can be a cornucopia of styles.”

Kesha Rose Sebert's fifth studio album, produced by Rick Rubin, dabbles with electroclash-gospel mash-ups ("Only Love Can Save Us Now"), sparse avant-pop balladry ("Fine Line"), and drone-splashed cautionary tales ("Don't Eat The Acid"). "An artist doesn’t exist to make others happy," she wrote in an album manifesto. "I believe an artist gives voice, motion, colour to the emotions we all have."

Big Thief collides with Erykah Badu and new-gen funk on the spirited and slinkily psychedelic latest from the Brainfeeder singer-songwriter. By the way, it's pronounced Ah-coooz-mat-e-koi. The project's narrative — which follows "a fictional post-apocalyptic keyboard-toting earthling" — was inspired by multiverses and climate change. The title track and "Propaganda" featuring Brijean came with the album's announcement in March.

In March, The FADER's Raphael Helfand called the song “Tenere Den” "a continuation of both the desert blues sound they pioneered and the revolutionary message they’ve always held close." In 2020, Erin Elizabeth Birgy took one look at the world's cascading collapses and decided it was time for one more wildly vivid art-pop album. Tracks like "Don't Doom Me, Now" and the Songs You Need-playlisted "The Clown" pulse with hope, defiance, and some of the classiest synths you've heard so far this year.
