Four Tet shares 8-minute long “Three Drums”
It’s the producer’s first solo single of the year.
Four Tet has dropped his first single of the year, “Three Drums.” The release follows his short-notice, Coachella-closing set with Skrillex and Fred again.. after Frank Ocean pulled out of his second scheduled performance due to a leg injury he sustained in the lead-up to the festival’s first weekend. The unlikely trio have been getting together since Fred again.. dropped “Rumble” in his viral Boiler Room set, and have been playing sporadic pop-up shows ever since. While Skrillex’s official “Rumble” release didn’t include Four Tet, the three super-producers reunited last month to drop “Baby Again..”
Contrasting his recent, dance-floor-oriented tunes (including remixes for Ellie Goulding and Everything But The Girl), “Three Drums” is a cinematic aural odyssey that expands through the entirety of its eight-minute run time. Four Tet’s simple percussion is guided by his breezy soundscapes and chilling synths, keeping listeners completely captivated until the arrival of the stirring vocals that bring the song to its satisfying end.
