Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel remix Caroline Polachek’s “Welcome To My Island”
Minimal wave group PVA also contribute a new version of Polachek’s most recent single.

Caroline Polachek‘s 2023 European tour is fast approaching, kicking off February 10 in Brighton. To build anticipation for the 13-date run (which precede a North American tour) and hype up Polachek’s eagerly awaited new album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, Polachek has shared two remixes of her latest single “Welcome To My Island” — one with Charli XCX and The 1975‘s George Daniel, and another from PVA, a minimal wave group based in London.
The two new reworks are very different while building on the iconoclastic energy of the original. Charli brings the chemistry she shared with Polachek on her songs “Tears” and “New Shapes,” delivering a rapped verse where she positions herself as the song’s titular island. The influence of Doss‘s retina-melting rave is strong here, especially after Charli’s vocals drop out, and that’s a good thing. On the flip side, PVA’s version is an austere cyberpunk dream with a body techno beat — I’d urge you to check out their 2022 album BLUSH if you like what you hear.
