Carla dal Forno has shared a new song called “Side By Side,” the opener and second single from her third studio LP. Come Around is due out November 4 via dal the Australian aritst’s own imprint, Kallista Records, and the new track follows the record’s August title track on its release cycle.
Today’s offering is a sultry slow burn that finds dal Forno’s airy soprano gliding over a subtly seductive duet of automated drums and bass. Glimmers of synth and ambient echoes electrify the air as she recounts a reunion with a romantic interest from the past.
“‘Side By Side’ is about the anticipation of hooking up with someone and the feelings of inevitability, transparency and impatience,” dal Forno explains. “It’s all in the lyric, ‘Make your move / I recognise the method you use.’”
“I’ve been sitting on this track for a few years. The production was really slow at first, leaning towards ‘ballad’ territory but it really seemed to find its groove when I increased the tempo and leaned into the bassline hook.”
