It's been a wild 24 hours for Kevin Gates fans. Yesterday, the Louisana rapper shared "Super General," a freestyle over Kodak Black's "Super Gremlin" beat that spoke on the dissolution of his marriage to Dreka Gates. It wasn't easy watching Gates, a frequent presence on hip-hop gossip social media, attempt to defend himself over the separation, thanks in large part to a series of highly explicit, questionable bars aimed at Rubi Rose and Beyoncé. But whatever your thoughts are on Gates, his new song "Intro" serves as a dismissal of all the criticism.
"Everything I do, you bitches got a problem with it," Gates says at the beginning of the song. "I take a shit, you got a problem with it." Over a beat that's reminiscent of Nas and Puff Daddy's "Hate Me Now," Gates is in vintage form pressing each bar as though he's trying to brand into your brain the names of every New Orleans neighborhood he name-drops. Gates frequently refers to himself as a general, and "Intro" is an address, in contrast to the raw vulnerability of his previous singles "Big Lyfe" and "Bad For Me." Those weren't bad songs by any stretch, but it's clear that Gates is in his element on "Intro." Watch the track's video above; Gates' new album Khaza is out on June 17.
