Mdou Moctar's Afrique Victime was one of the highlights of 2021, an album that pushed the boundaries of what guitar music is and can do. Today the blues guitarist and his band have announced details of Afrique Refait, an album of remixes helmed by electronic artists from the across Africa. A reworked version of "Taliat" by Rey Sapienz and MC Dougis is streaming below with the full album due April 19 via Matador.
Among the artists involved in the remix project include Kenyan grindcore duo Duma and Yugen Blakrok, best known for her appearance on Kendrick Lamar's Black Panther soundtrack. Many of the artists that participated are assosciated with the Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes, including Jay Mitta, MC Yallah, and Debmaster.
