Rasharn Powell and Ojerime’s “Play 2” video takes desire to the desert
The two London-based artists traveled to Joshua Tree to shoot the clip for their new collaboration.
U.K. R&B vocalists Rasharn Powell and Ojerime create a bedroom atmosphere in the desert in the video for their seductive new collaboration "Play 2." The song is a late night jam filled with the kind of boasts from both sides (Him: "I won’t brag now. You’ll come back round" and Her:"You can play my songs. Till the early morn,") that set expectations high. That same vibe is mirrored in the classy black and white visuals, with the sparse and sandy backdrop of the LA desert acting as a canvas on which the pair express their feelings of intimacy and lust.
"Play 2" is the first new material from both solo artists this year, with Powell dropping his debut project Dusk & Dawn last year and Ojerime having released her B4 I Breakdown in 2020. Both are working on new music for this year.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Powell said: "This video lifts us out of this world in a similar way the song does. It’s kinda extraterrestrial. The natural shape of the boulders seems similar to 'Play 2'’s artwork, mirroring the contouring of our bodies. It adds a different view to the sensuality of the song, plus I’ve always wanted a video in the desert!"
Ojerime added: "“I really enjoyed the experience, it’s been on my bucket list to visit Joshua Tree so when the opportunity to shoot came, I was really excited. The visual really represents the song’s energy, I know the fans will enjoy!"
In addition to the video Powell has also shared an interactive game based around the "Play 2" artwork. Check that out here.
