In 2020, quinn (then known as p4rkr, or osquinn) emerged as one of the few genuinely iconoclastic artists in the then-burgeoning digicore scene. Her music has the near-improvisational sheen commonly known as lo-fi, yet she never seems to lose control no matter how tumultuous her sound gets. Her breakout song "ok i'm cool" featuring blackwinterwells was No. 14 on our favorite songs of 2020 list, and her 2021 debut drive-by lullabies hit No. 23 on our end of year albums chart. On Sunday, quinn shared a new collection of songs called i'm going insane.
Like drive-by lullabies, i'm going insane is a space for quinn to explore. The 18 songs collect blown-out bedroom freestyles, sound collages, and a very heart-rending tribute to a dying childhood pet ("if your phone is leaking then by the time i respond it's gonna be broken"). The music was recorded at an especially difficult period, quinn explained on Instagram. "i dropped an 18 track album full of scrapped tracks that i made at the lowest point of my life (thus far), but contrary to the context it sounds pretty fun." Listen to the project below on Bandcamp.
