A new Pusha-T diss song is always an event, and his latest is no exception: the rapper has partnered with fast-food chain Arby's for "Spicy Fish Diss Track," a new song promoting the new Spicy Fish sandwich that targets the Filet-O-Fish sandwich from McDonald's.
Despite the track's PG-rating and the overall absurdity of its conceit, Pusha T doesn't phone in his verse, which makes the whole thing even funnier. "Say less, this argument is baseless," he raps, "Drowned in Tarter, that Filet-O-Fish is tasteless." Is it a good song? We can say, unequivocally, that it is the "Ether" of fish sandwich diss songs, and that's a sentence I didn't think I was going to have to write when I woke up this morning. Hear the song in the ad below.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Pusha T discussed his history with McDonald's – he claims to be behind the company's "I'm Lovin' It" jingle, and says he wasn't properly compensated:
I did it at a very young age at a very young time in my career where I wasn’t asking for as much money and ownership. It’s something that’s always dug at me later in life like, “Damnit, I was a part of this and I should have more stake.” It was like half a million or a million dollars for me and my brother [No Malice of Clipse]—but that’s peanuts for as long as that’s been running. I had to get that energy off me, and this [ad] was the perfect way to get that energy like, “You know what? I’m over it.”
