Destroyer starts a party on “Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread”
The new track is the second single from LABRYNTHITIS, out March 25 via Merge.
Daniel Bejar announced LABRYNTHITIS, his 13th album as Destroyer, in January with the release of its characteristically cryptic lead single, “Tintoretto, It’s for You.” Today, with the project roughly six weeks away, he's returned with "Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread," a certifiable foot-tapper.
The new track is propelled by intense drum fills from Joshua Wells, programmed percussion from Josh Collins, and a sparse smattering of synths. Most of the song is pleasant enough to play at a loud party, but blithely delivered lyrics like "I piss on the floor, the band sets up on the floor" might stop revelers short of trying the punch.
