Taylor Swift is Record Store Day 2022’s global ambassador
Swift will fill the role in its inaugural year.
Taylor Swift will be the first Record Store Day global ambassador. Previous United States ambassadors include Fred Armisen, Brandi Carlile, Pearl Jam, Run the Jewels, and St. Vincent, but Swift is the first to receive the international honor.
Swift was named to the role after her albums contributed to the highest Christmas week vinyl sales in the modern era. However, pop stars like Swift have been identified as possible factors in the ongoing vinyl shortage, causing capacity issues at processing plants that end up hurting smaller artists. In 2021, it was widely reported that Sony ordering 500,000 vinyl copies of Adele's 30 was a major factor in a vinyl shortage that has led to massive delays in less popular artists getting their albums pressed.
"The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me,” Swift wrote, announcing the news. “Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion.”
