Fast-rising English band Black Country, New Road are taking a step back from their free jazz-infused punk sound on their latest song "Track X," taken from their upcoming debut album For the first time. A guitar line reminiscent of American Football post-rock leads a nostalgic, slightly tense odyssey through love, pain, and Black Midi shows. As ever, there is a lot to unravel in the relative sparseness.
"'Track X' is a song we first worked on in 2018 but one that never made it out into our live performances," the band said in a statement. "We decided to resurrect it during the recording of For the first time and assemble it in the studio. The story is old but a good one and worth telling. We believe that people will enjoy singing along."
Check out the song's music video below. "The music video for 'Track X,'" the statement reads, "is about nostalgia for being a kid and happy times with family, stupid moments with friends like feeding Cheetos to a giant horde of birds in a Walmart parking lot, and for Tumblr and YouTube videos of cats."
For the first time is out February 5 via Ninja Tune.
