Chadwick Boseman's hometown of Anderson, South Carolina is "enthusiastically working on a permanent public tribute" to the late Black Panther star, TMZ reported on Thursday. Boseman passed away last Saturday after a private four-year battle with colon cancer.

Soon after Boseman's death, tens of thousands of fans signed a petition to replace a Confederate memorial outside of the Anderson County Court House with a statue of Boseman. However, the office of Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts told TMZ that the statue can only be removed by a two-thirds majority vote in South Carolina's state legislature.

It's unconfirmed what form the Boseman memorial will take. TMZ reports that "the statue will include a mix of sculpture with mural and/or art elements," but that the Mayor's office will open the memorial's design to the public.
