Tony Velour is an Atlanta-based rapper blessed with a generous level of the city's misfit energy. He's been releasing music for a minute, but Velour tapped into something exciting when he linked up with Dylan Brady of the experimental troll-pop group 100 gecs. Their collaboration elevated tracks like "Pull Up" from Velour's 2019 debut album Vices Hurt, and the pair are still going strong on their new track "EURO PLUG," premiering today on The FADER.
It's easy to mistake Brady's beat as the centerpiece: part 90s rave Eurotrash and part Atlanta hip-hop, the energetic instrumental is pure trappy hardcore, garish and gorgeous as a supermodel dressed in an outfit made of candy bracelets. But it's Velour's confident, PG-13 flexing that keeps the song's baked-in silliness from turning it into a lark. As the song's visualizer suggests, the triumphant track would sound nice in a stadium for a Premier League match where everyone was forced to eat mushrooms.

“I think Dylan played the beat for me as a joke," Tony Velour told us in an email, "but then I ended up recording the hook within like 5 minutes of hearing it to enjoy the joke, then it became fire. I felt like Pitbull and Flo Rida at the same time.”
