Girlpool shares remix EP featuring Dev Hynes, Lydia Ainsworth, and Porches
The Touch Me (It’s Like I’m Winning It) EP is out now.
Back in March, bedroom indie duo Girlpool released a new single called "Like I'm Winning It." The song's chrome-plated, darkwave disco paid homage to retro electronic pop while never sounding like a play for nostalgia. Today, the band has enlisted an impressive trio of musicians — Devonté Hynes b.k.a. Blood Orange, Porches, and Lydia Ainsworth — to remix "Winning" for a three-song remix EP called Touch Me (It’s Like I’m Winning It) .
Each new version of the song is distinct. Porches focuses on the danceable elements of the original track, and keeps the mood brooding and sultry; Lydia Ainsworth offers anxiously stuttering drums over widescreen orchestration. But it's Devonté Hynes who really swings for the fences with his song, led by his own new vocals, plush keys, and a cello that scrapes and strains like a horror movie soundtrack. Listen to all three versions above, and read Girlpool's FADER cover story here.
