Hear Bully’s cacophonous new single “Prism”

After almost three years away, Alicia Bognanno will release SUGAREGG, her third album as Bully, on August 21. The record marks a number of significant firsts for the Nashville-based rock songwriter, who, after producing and engineering Bully's first two records, this time ceded production and engineering duties to the Grammy-winning producer John Congleton (Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent). It's also the first record that Bognanno has made since finding the proper treatment for her bipolar disorder, which, she said in a press release announcing the record, allowed her to write more freely. That's crystal clear on the joyously cacophonous single "Prism," premiering below. Unlike SUGAREGG's first three singles — "Every Tradition," "Where to Start," and "Hours and Hours" — "Prism" is sung almost entirely in the first person, with Bognanno focusing on the routines and emotions that she wants to maintain in the midst of chaos. It is, she wrote in an email to The FADER, "about the process of letting go and realizing which aspects continue to resonate as time passes."
