Soulful Chicago indie rockers Whitney have announced a new covers album called Candid and shared a sample of the project: a new rendition for "Hammond Song" originally written by folk-rock sister trio The Roches. As breezy and comforting as a cold, koozie-swaddled drink on a hot lake, Whitney's "Hammond" wastes no time carrying you off to greener pastures. Have a listen above.

"Hammond Song" is one of 10 covers on Candid, which also contains tunes composed by Kelela, John Denver, David Byrne, and others. "This could've been as simple as saying we really love these songs and we love our bandmates and making a covers record just felt right," drummer and singer Julien Ehrlich wrote in a statement, "but it truly became an exploration into how we can evolve as a band going forward."

Candid is out August 14 via Secretly Canadian. It will include the previously released covers "Take Me Home, Country Roads" featuring Waxahatchee (originally written by John Denver), and "Rain" (by SMV). Read The FADER's Whitney profile here.
