One-time Be Your Own Pet drummer and Public Access TV lead singer John Eatherly took a step into new territory late last year with a solo EP called The Tales of No Return: Volume 1. Slinky and funk-inflected in parts but more foreboding than lead supple single "Certified Quality" suggested, the record was clearly an experiment from a restless and curious songwriter.

A few short months later, though, a his latest project, Club Intl., seems to be fully formed. The group includes Maxwell Kamins and Madeline Follin of Cults, and, most notably, Johnny Jewel of Chromatics is producing the project. As the project's debut single "Crush" proved, Jewel gives Eatherly the shine and shimmer that his synth lines and falsetto vocals seem to cry out for, placing it firmly in the Italians Do It Better tradition without sacrificing the subtle East Village rock inclinations of Eatherly's earlier work.

Today, Eatherly is premiering two new Johnny Jewel remixes of "Crush." The first is a "Drumapella Dream Version," which pushes percussion to the forefront of the mix and pitches the synths up to give the track a utopian spin. The latter is an "Orchestral Version," stripping away percussion entirely and letting the thick layers of keys overwhelm the listener before rapidly scaling back to let Eatherly's voice in.

"One of my favorite things about Italians Do It Better is the different versions of mixes that Johnny does for their releases," Eatherly wrote in an email to The FADER. "It's powerful to hear how his usage of space and the bringing in and out of different elements can change the overall song so much. It’s also sort of like getting able to listen to something you made from an objective fan perspective. Being a fan before working with with Johnny, I always loved hitting play on a new release they would do... and then just walking around getting totally lost in all the versions."
