"Heavy Balloon" — Fiona Apple
By all accounts, Fiona Apple's Fetch The Bolt Cutters is a masterpiece, and if this list was formatted differently, each of its percussive battle cries would easily nab a spot on this list. It isn't, so we're opting for "Heavy Balloon," her guttural take on the physical burden of depression.
"How Beautiful (she is)" — Salt Cathedral feat. MC Bin Laden & duendita
There is so much light to be found in Salt Cathedral's latest, a radiant exchange between the New York-based duo, rising songwriter duendita, and Brazilian funk renegade MC Bin laden.
"DNA RAIN" — Bladee
As a whole, Bladee's new project EXETER feels like a ghoulish circus with no finite boundaries, and "DNA RAIN" is the part of the show when the Drain Gang CEO begins to defy gravity entirely.
"Gimme Love" — Joji
Joji just wants love, man. He wants it frantic and in slow motion, in the sun and in the pouring rain. You get a bit of each on his newest, "Gimme Love." So, uh, give it to him, yeah?
"BOREDOM" — fish narc
If there is such a thing as post-teenage angst, it's all over fish narc's latest. As we all remain essentially grounded in our rooms, the timing couldn't be more fitting.
"@ MEH" — Playboi Carti
Carti is back, and he's buried some undeniably menacing threats beneath that ridiculously playful beat. What are you gonna do about it?
"AS Going" — Amnesia Scanner feat. LYZZA
Amnesia Scanner's latest, which features vocals from Brazilian artist LYZZA, is a thoroughly disorienting experience from start to finish — nauseating, even. And yet we keep coming back for more.
"Out Of Love" — Lil Tecca
Even when Tecca's got nothing left to give, there's still plenty to swoon over. We going [airplane emoji] Virgo World?
"But There's Still The Moon" — Tasha
Gratitude is the name of the game. As bleak as it is down there, there's still enchanting stuff going on in the sky. Chicago songwriter Tasha puts it all into perspective on this one.
"The Steady Heart" — Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's latest feels like a piece of audible stained glass. Take a few minutes, see what shines through, and absorb it. You deserve this.
