The unlikely collaboration between sweet-voiced jazz musician Tom Misch and the more improvisational and groove-based drummer and producer Yussef Dayes works precisely because the two come from such different standpoints, and their forthcoming LP What Kinda Music — out via the legendary Blue Note Records on April 24 — is compelling proof. For Digital FORT, they sent us a short session for their studio that has them both working out their next move on the spot, working off of each others’ ideas in real time, quickly creating something out of nothing.
