Shordie Shordie had one of the best rookie years in rap last year without even breaking into the mainstream. His hit single "Bitchuary," which was released in December 2018, took off. Its success got him appearances at multiple Rolling Loud stages, a loyal fanbase on the West Coast, and a remix of the track that featured Wiz Khalifa and A Boogie with the Hoodie. In January, the song was certified platinum, making him the first rapper from Baltimore to ever have a platinum single. And while he enjoyed the success of that, he was still consistently dropping loose tracks and snippets to hold fans over.
Today, Shordie dropped another track and video titled "Fucc Friends." Much like "Bitchuary," the song takes cues from Bay Area rap in its production. In the video, Shordie dramatically plays the keyboard on a patio deck surrounded by homies. In an email conversation with The FADER, he explains that the song is about wanting to have the closest connection possible to a love interest. "'Fucc Friends' is about the essence of not just being in a relationship or being friends. Fuck that, I want to be closer than that.”
He also exclusively shared that the song will be featured on a forthcoming project titled > Music (meaning "more than music") that is slated for a unspecified Spring release. "The public only sees me as a musician and not as a person too. I understand it, because I love music too, but life is far too real for everything to be about just that," Shordie said. "There's more to me than my music and that is the reason why I am where I am today. My character and story speak just as vivid as my songs. Because of that, I want my fans to dive deeper and truly see that there's more in what I provide and what life provides." Watch the video for "Fucc Friends" above.
