Earlier this month, Bernie Sanders invited Chuck D and Ana Tijoux to warm up the crowd for him at a Los Angeles campaign rally. Like Sanders, Tijoux is revolution-minded: earlier this year, she released the stellar protest anthem "Cacerolazo". Now, Tijoux continues her march towards equality with her new single "Antifa Dance"
Dressed in military regalia and surrounded by children, Tijoux raps about solidarity with groups of people commonly looked down upon in order to defeat the fascist enemy. The production in the Daniela López Lugo-directed video is disruptive and upbeat.
In an email, Tijoux explained how the song came about: "A few years ago, it was unthinkable to reassess the word fascism. Facing authoritarianism, unrelenting hatred for the other, we again return to art, with all its force. Art that is charged with music and color. Art that responds in dance, an organized movement of beautiful rebellion. This is why we decided to make a danceable album. It is our profound belief that from pain, the purest act of love and resistance is born. Antifa Dance."
