Four songs on Man Alive! ("Perfecto Miserable," "Alone, Omen 3," "(Don't Let The Dragon) Draag On," and "Energy Fleets") were first debuted in acoustic form in 2019 when Archy Marshall released his Hey World! short film.

Written directly after coming off tour in support of 2017 album The Ooz, recording of Man Alive! was split between the British towns of Nunhead and Stockport. Marshall moved to the North West of England last year ahead of the birth of his daughter, Marina.
