Nigerian star Mr. Eazi's music, like many of his peers, has always been deeply rooted in love and relationships, but more times than not, those songs deal with the exciting pursuit of love. In his newest track (and first song of 2020) "Kpalanga," the love story that Eazi details is one that hits close to home. The song and video — which are premiering today on The FADER — are centered around the experiences of couples that include active service members and how challenging they can be.
“My dad and mum have been married for over 30 years, and growing up I saw how committed my dad who was far away in the military, was to my mum," Eazi said in a press release. "Now that I’m older and more aware of the sacrifices my father made, I see some of my friends who are in the military going through the same thing. The song is me speaking from the perspective of a lover who's far away in the military, while his partner is waiting anxiously, engulfed with emotion because of the distance and the reality of their loved one being in the military. We don't realize all of that waiting becomes frustrating, waiting for your partner to return." Watch the video above.
