Canadian electro-pop maven Kiesza returned with her single "Boys Don't Cry" on Friday. The singer is back after a two-year hiatus and tackles something as tense as emotional expression and masculinity with light lyrics and bouncy production.
"I grew up around a lot of men and was always aware of the struggles they faced when it came to opening up about their true feelings," the singer told LADYGUNN about the single. "I always feel like being vulnerable is about having an open heart. And that’s not as easy as it sounds, because it takes a lot of courage to be open."
The Nytrix-directed clip finds Kiesza twirling through the neon-lit streets of Los Angeles dressed in head to toe glitter, light-filled parasol in hand.
"You may have to listen through grit teeth, grit teeth / Because you don't always see it when boys cry," she sings on the track.
