Jlin supercharges dubstep on new song “I Hate Being An Adult”
Released on Adult Swim Singles.
Jlin exploded onto the scene with 2015's Dark Energy, an album of bold and unclassifiable productions. Her sound was initially linked with Chicago footwork, though Jlin would lean away from signifiers of any particular scene in her subsequent projects Origami and Autobiography, a soundtrack for a dance piece by Wayne McGregor. Her new song "I Hate Being An Adult," released on Adult Swim Singles, follows Jlin's M.O. of being adjacent to a sound while not being entirely of it. The markers of dubstep are there — synths that roar like a five-alarm fire on a spaceship, for example — but in Jlin's hands, they're sculpted into something less obvious and far more essential.
