DaBaby says battle rapping is “a distraction”

The pride of North Carolina opens up in a new RapPack interview.

DaBaby has been one of 2019’s surprise breakout stars. His second album of the year, KIRK, landed him at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart; in addition, his single “Suge” reached the coveted top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It takes some focus to get to that rarefied zone, and in his interview today with the RapPack podcast, he confirmed that he’s not letting any distractions, like battle rapping, get in his way. “You ain’t going to see me doing no battle rap,” he told the podcast. “It’s a distraction from the art, and it’s a distraction from the money, too.” DaBaby gave this response when asked if he would ever battle anyone who denied his claim that he’s the best rapper alive.
