One of my favorite live concert videos shows Miguel miming sex in front of hundreds of screaming fans, their cries almost as distorted as the sounds of the band. It's a perfect encapsulation of the Johnny Bravo-like side of his public persona, even if it erases his status as a supreme pop-R&B talent. "Funeral," Miguel's first brand new solo single since his 2017 album War & Leisure, begins with the line: “Send my regards to the mother and father / ‘Cause somebody’s daughter I just fucking slayed.” He's still horny, folks, and he's going with a dark techno vibe reminiscent of Starboy-era Weeknd to announce his return.
