In a song released on his 2018 album Kamikaze called "The Ringer," Eminem claimed that he was questioned by the Secret Service over lyrics perceived to be threatening towards President Donald Trump. Now, a 40-page trove of documents obtained by Buzzfeed confirms that Eminem was interviewed by the Secret Service for “exhibiting inappropriate behavior” deemed "threatening" to Trump.

The documents cite the Eminem song "Framed" — from 2017's Revival — as one example of the rapper's music containing "threatening lyrics" directed towards Trump and his family. In the song, Eminem raps about the murder of Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter. In the song, he raps "Donald Duck’s on as the Tonka Truck in the yard / But dog, how the fuck is Ivanka Trump in the trunk of my car?"

“This is not the first time MATHERS made threatening comments towards POTUS and his family," the documents read. "In June 2017, MATHERS freestyled comments that were threatening in nature towards POTUS.”

The investigation was reportedly launched on December 15, 2017, when a TMZ employee reached out to the Secret Service in an email. The message contained a link to an article about Eminem's lyrics in "Framed," with a message written by the TMZ employee: "I want to know if your agency is investigating Eminem for his threatening lyrics about First daughter Ivanka Trump." The email was reportedly sent hours before TMZ published a story about the lyrics on "Framed."

The Secret Service conducted its interview with Eminem and his legal team on January 16, 2018. Two days afterward, "it was determined that this case will be NON-REFERRED," and the matter was not pursued further.
