The dreamy, retro-leaning stylings of Divino Niño have been bubbling out of their hometown of Chicago for a few years now. Formed by childhood friends Javier Forero and Camilo Medina, the group has cited the fuzzy, nostalgic sounds of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Lovin' Spoonfuls as inspiration for their silky love songs. This past June, they released Foam, their first full-length.
It appears they also have a wild streak in them if their video for "Plastic Love," which The FADER is premiering today, is any evidence. The Alec Basse-directed visual's premise is simple enough: a massage therapy session goes horribly wrong — but maybe not in the way you'd expect; it all goes down as the group's lovely tune plays in the background, a disorienting, and truly spooky spectacle.
"For 'Plastic Love,' we wanted to play with the contrasting relationship between artificial and organic," Basse wrote of the video via email. "The phrase 'plastic love' itself is contradictory, opening up a world of ideas about fake bliss or kindness. This narrative is about seeking manufactured pleasure, and what happens when self-indulgence in said manufactured pleasure or 'plastic love' is taken too far."
