J Dilla’s legacy will be passed down to high school kids thanks to a new grant for music production
The J Dilla Music Tech Grant will be extended to three new schools from September.
A program to fund electronic music education has been established in J Dilla's name by the Save the Music Foundation. The J Dilla Music Tech Grant will benefit public high school students with the aim of fostering music education with nontraditional instruments and production methods. The project was created in partnership with Pharrell's i am OTHER collective and Arizona State University.
Schools that receive the grants will be given books, instruments, audio gear, computer hardware and software in addition to support over a 10-year period. The program will extend to three new schools in September after launching in Philadelphia, Miami, Brooklyn, and Newark in 2018.
