"Better Days" and "Wetin Dey" represent Odunsi's first new material since his album rare dropped in 2018. The Nigerian artist transitions from lightness to dark in the double music video for both songs, premiering above.
Things start out fun and frivolous in "Wetin Dey," as the Nigerian artist bops around Lagos, dancing and flirting to a lilting tune that samples pioneering Nigerian rappers Ruff Rugged & Raw. "Better Days," meanwhile, was produced by P2J who worked with Beyoncé on "Brown Skin Girl." That song tells the story of a "stone cold killer" and is accompanied by a noir-ish video shot in blood-red light.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Odunsi explained the concept behind the two videos: "With 'Wetin Dey' I wanted to express the youth in Lagos going out and having fun," he said. "I was inspired by the Will Smith 'Summertime' video. I always wanted to recreate that. 'Better Days' has a bit of a darker theme of running away after doing something evil. I had to shoot two videos because I like both songs as much as the other."
Odunsi (The Engine) brings his Angels At The Disco tour to the U.K. and Europe in October.
