CURRENT MOOD: Listen to Palm’s abstract, eclectic, spring playlist

In our Current Mood series, we ask some of our favourite artists to curate a playlist according to a specific theme or mood of their choice. For Current Mood #009, experimental Philly four-piece Palm share an eclectic mix of what they've been listening to lately. Listen to past Current Mood playlists here.

Palm make music that doesn't sound like much else — the Philadelphia four-piece are hard to pin down and always encourage dissection and dedicated listening. In 2017, they told The FADER they were a band "without rules" and as time's gone on, that's become more and more true — 2018's Rock Island was a confounding-but-compelling melange of funk, pop, math-rock and strange electronics that's still hard to really categorise even a year on from its release.

'Hard to categorise' applies to the band's CURRENT MOOD playlist too — the Palm's Listening mix that they've made for us twists and turns, never letting the listener get too settled. Palm's Listening begins with Eddie Ruscha’s quirky, ambient-leaning “Woo Are You” before veering into dub, EDM, footwork, RnB, and indie rock; it's a playlist that's as good for discovering old-school curios as it is for passive listening.
