Oh fuck, it looks like Perfume Genius and Phoebe Bridgers are up to something. On Tuesday night, Mike Hadreas posted a photo of he and Bridgers from a record-studded studio. The Instagram was captioned, "at our office cooking up that good sad for you," so, uh, yeah. Guess we're about to get emotionally eviscerated.
A Bridgers and Hadreas collaboration actually would make perfect sense — not just thematically, but in how both songwriters have prioritized collaborations throughout their careers. Over the past handful of years, Perfume Genius has released tracks with Empress Of, Christine and the Queens, Weyes Blood, and King Princess. Bridgers has put out two full-scale collaborative projects over the past year: boygenius with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and Better Oblivion Community Center with Conor Oberst.
