Meek Mill is getting a new trial
Meek launched his new label Dream Chasers just hours before a Pennsylvania appeals court threw out his 2008 conviction.
It's a huge day for Meek Mill. The Philadelphia rapper just made some major legal strides: after being granted a new hearing last month, an appeals court officially and unanimously threw out his 2008 gun and drugs conviction. The court has granted Meek a new trial without Judge Brinkley, who's been long accused of having a bias against Meek. The decision means that Meek is not on probation anymore, and is no longer considered a felon.
There's still no word as to when the new trial will be held, but Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s office has stated that the police officer who testified as the sole prosecution witness in the original trial will not be called in the new case due to suspicion of his credibility. Later this summer, Meek and his legal struggles will be the focus of a new docu-series on Amazon, Free Meek, which will be produced by Jay Z and Roc Nation.
Speaking of Jay-Z and Roc Nation, Meek started arrived at the label's New York City office this morning to announce the launch of his new label imprint, Dream Chasers. Mill will serve as the president of the joint venture, signing and developing new artists as well as opening a recording studio. “Everything he has done leading up to this point shows he is ready to [lead] the next generation," Jay-Z told the press. "We look at the big picture — this is way beyond signing artists and having hot records.” Mill reportedly still plans on fulfilling his contract with Maybach/Atlantic as he begins heading Dream Chasers.
