In a world where Kid Cudi is an HBO darling and Andre 3000 makes movies with Claire Denis surely there's scope for Freddie Gibbs as a leading man.
Take the video for "Giannis" as evidence for the undecided. Gibbs picks up the plot from the "Crime Pays" video and shows Gibbs as he turns his back on a life of crime after having murdered his friend. The whole thing takes place in the middle of the ocean for reasons that seem to extend no further than jet-skis are cool. Which, fair point.
"Giannis" is, of course, taken from Gibbs & Madlib’s Bandana and features Anderson .Paak on vocals. The album, Gibbs and Madlib's second as a duo, was released last month and also features Pusha T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey and Black Thought. Check out the "Giannis" video above.
